#3 Denny Hamlin.
Its strange how one little incident can make fans completely despise a driver, but that’s what happened to Denny Hamlin after he took out Chase Elliott at Martinsville last season. Not only were NASCAR fans upset at Hamlin for ultimately costing Elliott a spot in the final four of the playoffs, but also for ruining what was at the time his best chance of getting his first win.
With that being said, a lot of the hatred towards Denny Hamlin has to do with the hatred of veteran drivers still dominating the series. Of course there are a plethora of younger drivers that have made things more interesting over the last couple of seasons, but the older drivers always seem to win out in the end and make the younger drivers look foolish sometimes for even trying.
In the end, the hatred for Denny Hamlin and other drivers reluctant to relinquish their hold on on The Cup Series will only end when a another driver manages to somehow unseat them. That doesn’t mean someone takes their ride and essentially sends them into retirement, but it does mean that the anger and resentment is going to continue until the younger batch of drivers can prove themselves.
