Christopher Bell’s Cup hopes.
Its no secret that Christopher Bell, a young driver that has already captured five wins, 15 top-fives, 17 top-ten’s, four poles want to compete at The Cup Series level, but nothing has seemed to open up yet. In fact, Bell admitted in an August 3rd interview that he wasn’t aware of any plans to bring him up to The Cup Series in 2019.
“Right now, we’re right in the middle of closing out the regular season with three road courses in front of me, so I’ve got my hands full right now, especially going into road course season here and trying to maintain our points lead,” Bell said. “Nothing’s been talked about or said to me about that.”
With that being said, Bell has told reporters that he feels he doesn’t want to waste another season in The Xfinity Series and really wishes he find a Cup Series ride next year. Of course there are a variety of options for him to go to The Cup Series, but the most interesting one seems to be a ride at Furniture Row Racing.
What’s interesting about that possibility is the fact that Furniture Row’s second team closed down last season after having Erik Jones as their driver for a year. It was reported that most of the reason for this was the lack of sponsorship opportunity for the team without Jones, but wouldn’t Bell be the best person to take his place in that regard?
Both are young, both are talented and both are capable of setting the sport on fire if given the right opportunity. If nothing else, Alex Bowman, Chase Elliott and Darrell Wallace Jr are proof that sponsors are taking chances on young drivers and it seems to be working out better then anyone could have expected! So why wouldn’t Bell be able to capitalize on that also?
