Joey Logano won The FireKeepers Casiano’s 400 at Michigan International Speedway on Monday but the victory wasn’t without its controversy. In fact, several drivers, including, Kyle Busch and Martin Truex Jr, commented on The #22 car’s restart after the race.
“I thought, ‘Hey, maybe we do have a shot at this thing’ and then he jumped the restart by over a car length,” Martin Treux Jr claimed in a post-race interview ” don’t know. I guess they don’t enforce those rules anymore. We’ll have to remember that for next time.”
Unfortunately for Martin Treux Jr, these comments have seemingly damned him in the court of public opinions and forcing many fans to compare his complaining to that of Kyle Busch. Interestingly enough, fans are also comparing this to his incident with Logano last year at Martinsville, where Truex Jr claimed that Logano
Speaking of Kyle Busch, he also complained about the restart, telling reporters in a post-race interview that “He just drove away from us there on that final restart,” Just flat out out-accelerated us and drove away. He even gave room for (Truex) to fall in line so that was pretty anti-climactic there at the end.”
NASCAR officials later stated that they reviewed the restart in question, which they claim they saw from several angles, and concluded that Joey Logano did not jump the final restart of the race. While the dispute is over in terms of penalties or encumbered wins, NASCAR fans are still fired up about the matter.
With that being said, Joey Logano had a very interesting response to the incident, even laughing it off when it was asked by reporters. Of course that’s probably going to come across to some as cocky or even poor sportsmanship, but he is giving NASCAR fans something to talk about!
“I was able to see it (the line) right in front of me,” he said. “I had a good restart there didn’t I? That one felt good. Yep!”
