Ronda Rousey appeared in WWE for the first time in two years at The Royal Rumble Sunday night and while many in The WWE Universe are hoping that the historic moment was a way to set up a match between either her and Charlotte or her and Alexa Bliss, it appears that WWE has something else in mind for the former UFC Bantamweight champion.
Unfortunately for those hoping to see Rousey versus Charlotte at WrestleMania 34, which was believed to be the original plan, Dave Meltzer is now reporting that the plan going forward is for Rousey to team up with a male partner to take on Triple H and Stephanie McMahon at The Shows of Shows. In fact, some believe that Rousey’s partner will be The Rock, who she made her first appearance in WWE with back at a previous WrestleMania.
With that being said, the match would be a great way to maintain continuity from her original appearance with The Rock and would also be a huge box office draw for this year’s show of shows in New Orleans. Not only that, the move would also allow another superstar to challenge for Charlotte’s Woman’s title on Smackdown Live, which could be a great way to give a younger deserving talent a shot in the spotlight.
Whats interesting here is that WWE did a little bit of foreshadowing of the rumored match at WrestleMania 34 when she shook hands with Stephanie McMahon at the close of the show. Stephanie McMahon was also asked if she knew anything about why Rousey was here right now and what her plans were, which McMahon played up the fact that she didnt know anything about.
Of course that’s probably only from a storyline perspective, but does open the possibility for a rift between Triple H and Stephanie McMahon while The Game tries to explain to his wife why he ended up signing Rousey in the first place. In the end, hopefully this leads to the rumored blockbuster tag team match at WrestleMania 34, but it is worth noting that WWE definitely has other options they can consider in the meantime.
