#4 No benefit to winning segments.
While segments serve the purposes of rewarding stage points and playoff points during races, it arguably served no purpose during this year’s all star race. Not only did the winner of each of the four segments not receive any points, advantages for the final segment or bonus money, the results of the segment also became pretty useless after pitstops happened.
With that being said, maybe NASCAR needs to go back to rewarding the winner of each segment with a spot in the top four on the final restart. At least that gives drivers some incentive to win the segment and also makes things a little more interesting for fans in the meantime. In the end, it might be seen as a step backwards, but that format could really work with the addition of the new restrictor plates package.
