NASCAR might want to promote Chase Elliott as one of the sports top stars after his win at Watkins Glen, but how can they do that considering how long it took him to actually do so? Again, a win on a road course is impressive, especially for a young driver, but when you consider who has won before him, it becomes less impressive.
In fact, Ricky Stenhouse Jr, Austin Dillon, Erik Jones, Chris Buescher, and Ryan Blaney, have all nabbed their first win before Elliott did. While those drivers might not be as consistent as Elliott is every week, the fact that they have won a race before someone that had better equipment, a better team and a strong sponsorship is very telling of how behind Elliott still is.
