Five Controversial NASCAR Stories You May Have Missed This Week

Who thought Aric Almirola was going to be a contender in 2018?

While some fans had hope for Almirola to finally rise to the top, especially since he was moving over to Stewart Haas Racing, there was still some concern about whether he could take Danica Patrick’s old team and help turn them into a contender. Of course Almirola has done all that and more throughout the first three races of The Monster Energy Cup Series season, but he might be going a little too far with the statement he made this week.

“I’m just really proud of everybody Almirola said after Sunday’s race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, If we continue to run like this, we’re going to be in contention to win some races later on,“We’re building some really fast race cars and we just need to continue to build a notebook between me and (crew chief) Johnny (Klausmeier) and continue to figure out what we need in our race cars.

Sure, Aric Almirola came close to victory at The Daytona 500 before being taken out on the last lap, but his two finishes outside the top-ten after that don’t seem to reflect that of a team that is going to be contending for wins this year. Now, that dosen’t mean Almirola isn’t showing a great deal of progress, especially since he managed to finish inside the top-15 in the first three races of the season, but it seems a little too early to be talking about wins right now.
