#3 The playoffs.
Whether NASCAR fans want to admit it or not, the implementation of the playoff system back in 2003 was one of the best decisions NASCAR ever made. Not only did it generate a lot of media coverage over the fact that the sport would finally have its own playoff system, it also garnered a lot of interest from sponsors, media networks and fans.
Maybe its not perfect and maybe it never will be, but the playoffs were a huge step forward for the a sport that was struggling to come into the new era. In the end, France was able to generate enough interest from the new system to garner a 4.5 million dollar contract to air the inaugural season under the new format, which was a huge deal that propelled NASCAR forward even further.
