It might not have been the season that Dale Earnhardt Jr wanted.

In fact, this season is probably his worse since coming to The Cup level to drive for his dad in 2000, but all that has changed now with the announcement that Jr and his wife, Amy, are expecting their first child. The surprising news was made on Instagram on Monday and included a cute little photo of pink baby booties with the caption, “Excited to share the wonderful news that @mrsamyearnhardt and I are expecting our first child. A little girl!!!!”

This news comes one day after JR’s miraculous 7th place finish at Talladega Super speedway, which involved narrowly escaping three huge wrecks in the final stage  , and has to be good news for a driver that is also literally having one of the worst retirement tours in NASCAR Monster Energy Cup Series history.  Not only that, it finally gives the chance to have that family he’s been talking about so much lately.

Top five biggest problems in NASCAR right now!

“I’m excited to start a family, and I hope I’m fortunate enough to do that with Amy,’’ JR told reporters at Dover International Speedway a couple of weeks ago.. “We definitely want to do that. And it would be weird not being a race car driver if I have a daughter or son, I think about that, would they understand what I’m telling them or what I did for a long time. I’m hoping to find out all that stuff soon.’’

With that being said, Dale Earnhardt Jr’s retirement tour comes to Kansas Motor Speedway next weekend, where The 14 time most popular driver is hoping to get his first win of the season. He also has a great opportunities to win at Martinsville and Phoenix, specially with wins at tracks in the past, and would then be able to ride of into the sunset with a baby girl on the way, an NBC announcing job in waiting and a lifetime of memories.
