Carmella is only a few months into her run as Smackdown Live Women’s champion, but things have already gotten interesting for The Queen of Staten Island.
Not only has Carmella managed to successfully cash in her Money in The Bank contract the night after WrestleMania to end Charlotte’s title reign, she also defeated Asuka by pinfall at Money in The Bank this month. Of course Asuka was distracted by the return of James Ellsworth, but it is still driving WWE fans crazy that Carmella was the first superstar to successfully pin Asuka.
With that being said and Asuka confronting Carmella and James Ellsworth on Smackdown Live, it looks like WWE is heading for a rematch between the two at Extreme Rules. In fact, Bryan Alvarez stated that the plan moving forward will probably be Asuka versus Carmella at Extreme Rules, which seems to fall in line with what fans saw on Smackdown Live.
In the end, it looks like this is just a stop gap situation, especially with how Asuka lost to Carmella at Money in The Bank and Asuka will be replaced with another superstar once Extreme Rules comes to pass. One option could be Becky Lynch, who defeated a member of The Iconics on Smackdown Live, but WWE could also call on countless other stars to fill the role going forward.
